AR (anti-reflection) and AGAR (anti-glare & reflection) film
Mechanism and effect
|
■ AR (anti-reflection) Mechanism |
|
The multi-layered dielectric coating on the base film would make two
types of
reflected wave interfere each other and thus eliminate reflection. |
|
■ Effect of AR film |
AR film eliminates ambient light reflection which often cause problem
for
shop front window, show case, and surveillance monitor with protective
case. |

■ AR film on one side ? or on both side ? |
 |
★ Apply AR film on both side for full effect. |
Light reflects both on front and reverse side of glass surface. Reflections
are approx
4-5% for each side, and total reflection is about 10%. AR film reduces
it down to
0.5% on each side and total reflection would cut down to less than 1%
(1/10) when
applied on both side. * Applying only on one side leaves out 5.5% reflection.

★ LCD and Tablet PC require film to be applied only on the monitor surface |
The reflection occurs at the boundary of 2 substances that have large
differences in its density.
(such as glass and air) Reverse side of LCD/Tablet PC monitor is usually
filled with adhesives
and has no space between. In sach case it will be sufficient to apply
film only on the glass
surface. (notice : result may vary depend on models) |
★ Limited effect for Multi-Layered Glass (double/triple glazing glass) |
As described above, AR film is required to be applied on every surface
of glass.
However, in reality, it is often impossible to apply AR film on inside
surfaces of the
multi-layered glass. Therefore, we do not recommend using AR film for
those glasses. |
■ AGAR Film (Anti-Glare and Anti-Reflection) |
AGAR film is developed for mobile and LCD monitors. The diffusion processed film
eliminates highlights which can not completely be eliminated only by AR
film.
AGAR film is effective only when the object set behind the glass is within
1cm.
It would look blurry when it is set apart from the glass. For this reason,
AGAR film is
not effective when it is applied on show windows or show case. it is effective
only for
LCD monitor, picture frame and such. Application only one one side is sufficient
when
there is no space left on the reverse side.
* Low price AR film often has only AG treatment and not AR |

AR film and acrylic are designed and developed for indoor use, and it is
susceptible to rain, wind and especially susceptible to strong UV. With
that said, it is also fact that many customers use film in outdoor environment
as well since it has to be applied on
both side of window. We usually recommend the film applied outdoor to be
replaced somewhere around 2 years, however please note that longevity depends
completely
on environment to which film is exposed to and we are unable to guarantee
that. |
